ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

Electronic communications engineering is the utilization of science and math applied to practical problems in the field of communications. Electronic communications engineers engage in research, design, development and testing of the electronic equipment used in various communications systems. It is due to engineering colleges in delhi ncr that we enjoy such modern communication devices as cellular telephones, radios and television.

Broadly speaking, an engineer’s challenge is to create solutions to enhance quality of human life. This entails innovations emanating from creative minds. Faculty is the medium for inducing everlasting ‘Passion for Excellence’ amongst students. To achieve holistic growth, Faculty’s domain knowledge is updated via attending Short-term courses and Quality Improvement Programs of Government of India held at Centres of Excellence like IITs and NITs.

Faculty is the fulcrum of innovations. They instil an abiding attitude of ‘willingness to learn’. Their efforts are focused towards inculcating ‘spirit of enquiry’ amongst students via acquisition of requisite theoretical and practical Electronics & Communication skills which would blossom them into innovative minds to prove invaluable asset to industry besides becoming socially responsible individuals.

We also motivate our undergraduate students to pursue higher studies via enrolment for MTech stream, which will launch them in the noble task of nation-building by nurturing the roots of future generations.

During 2016, EC Department shall collaborate with the MHRD, Government of India for establishing state-of-the art Robotics Lab, wherein 4 teachers will be imparted world-class training by industry experts. This unique facility in Greater Noida will enable our faculty to offer innovative projects to BTech as well as MTech students, resulting in their employability with attractive packages.

HOD’s Profile:

Prof. Sunil Kumar is the Head of the Department of Electronic & Communication Engineering, IEC College of Engineering and Technology. He has earned his B.Tech from MNIT Allahabad and M.Tech in Power system from IIT, BHU Varanacy. He has total teaching experience in the institute like Government engineering college kota, BITS Pilani, Bit bokaro, IEC college 29 years of teaching experience at UG and PG levels and is an active researcher.

Prof. Manoj Garg, (Associate Professor ) working as an academic coordinator in Department of Electronic & Communication Engineering, IEC College of Engineering and Technology has completed his B.Tech from UPTU Lucknow and M.Tech from  RTU Kota. Presently he is pursuing PhD in Microwave engineering from Jaypee University Noida ( JIIT). He is having 11 years of teaching experience at Graduate and Post Graduate level.  His areas of interest are Microwave engineering and Micro-strip patch antenna.   Name of lab: - Electronics Workshop & PCB Design Lab

Brief description of lab: - In this lab students do different types of work related to PCB designing. These are designing, winding and testing of transformer, making of PCB (circuit artwork, negative development, etching, drilling, etc) and study of soldering and desoldering techniques.

Importance of Lab:- In this lab students learn various techniques of PCB designing and  making transformer. This lab is very helpful for students in their final year project.

Name of Lab: - Logic Design Lab

Brief description of lab: - Digital electronic circuits are usually made from large assemblies of logic gates. In this lab, students design circuit with the help of breadboard, study logic gates and design different types of Flip Flop with logic gates, design multiplexer, adder, subtractor and different type of counter, seven segment display.   

Importance of Lab: - Digital electronics techniques are most important in this current world because without digital electronics it's not possible to speed up our work.
The importance of this laboratory is to help students to understand digital logic at the gate and switch level including both combinational and sequential logic elements, to understand the clocking methodologies necessary to manage the flow of information and preservation of circuit state. Experiments are designed in such a way that the students become well aware of the concepts they learn in theory sessions.

Name of Lab: - Electronics Device Lab

Brief description of lab: - In this lab, students study active and passive components (Diode, Transistor, Resistor, Capacitor, Inductor, FET, etc) and analyze the difference between the two. Students study about passive components like resistance color coding, different types of capacitance measuring using multi meters and coding, active components like diode and its applications in rectifier, clipper, clamper, voltage regulator, transistor (amplifier, oscillator), etc. Students also study to operate various equipments like CRO, multimeter, function generator, different types of power supply etc.

Importance of Lab: - Basic electronics laboratory is the gateway of the electronics & communication engineering world. At the very beginning the students get familiarized with the various electronics instruments & components which basically equip them to construct complex circuits in near future. In this lab students build up preliminary electronic circuits and verify the results with theoretical concepts. Lab experiments are designed in such a fashion that the engineering skill of the students starts to enrich. Importance of this lab is to know about electronics components and equipment to students. Students learn to operate CRO (Cathode Ray Oscilloscope), measure amplitude and frequency of signals, how to measure voltage, current, resistance, capacitance, etc using multimeter.

Name of Lab: - Electronics Measurement lab

Brief description of lab:-   In this lab students study how to measure the Lissajous pattern, unknown frequency using CRO, study of different types of pressure transducers, different types of temperature transducers, study of different types of Bridges(Kelvin double bridge, Schering bridge, Wheatstone bridge), study of voltmeter, ammeter.

Importance of Lab: - Measurement and Instrumentation is the variety of measuring instruments to monitor and control a process. It is the art and science of measurement and control of process variables within a production, laboratory, or manufacturing area. An instrument is a device that measures a physical quantity such as flow, temperature, level, distance, angle, or pressure. Students learn the finesse of the subject.

Name of Lab: - Integrated Circuits Lab

Brief description of lab: - In this lab students study Operational Amplifier and its application like Comparator, Oscillator, Adder & Subtractor, different types of active filters (low pass, high pass, band pass, band stop), Log Antilog amplifier, Voltage Regulator, Analog to Digital Convertor & Digital to Analog Convertor etc. In this lab students also study Phase Lock Looped IC, 555 Timer IC to generate square wave pulse. All circuits are designed on bread board using ICs and active and passive components.

Importance of Lab: - Integrated Circuit Design focuses on smart IC design techniques to create portable, fast and energy-efficient communication systems. This lab is very useful to make student’s projects.

Name of Lab: - Analog & Digital Communication Engg. Lab

Brief description of lab: - In this lab students study about various types of analog and digital communication technique. These are Amplitude Modulation & Demodulation (DSB/SC, SSB/SC), Frequency Modulation & Demodulation, Pulse Modulation & Demodulation (PPM, PWM, PAM). Students also study digital communication techniques. These are Amplitude Shift Keying Modulation & Demodulation, Frequency Shift Keying Modulation & Demodulation, Pulse Code Modulation & Demodulation etc. Students briefly study about transmitter & receiver and different types of antennas.  

Importance of Lab: - This lab is the heart of the ECE branch. Communication Engineering laboratory focuses on training the students in both analog and digital transmission/reception of signal. Society today is firmly rooted in electronic communication systems, and it is hard to imagine life without them. Global systems such as TV, radio, the Internet and wired and mobile telephones have a fundamental impact on the way we live and work. Experiments are designed in such a way that the students become well aware of the concepts they learn in the communication.

Name of Lab: - Microprocessor & Microcontroller Lab

Brief description of lab: - The increased use and the importance of microprocessors have led to the appearance of microcontroller chips. A microcontroller is also known as a single-chip computer and it is manufactured by combining the basic microprocessor and the peripheral modules inside a single chip. In this lab students study arithmetic program (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division etc.), logical program  (finding largest/smallest, ascending/descending, code conversion), algebra program (square, square root) etc. Students also study about interfacing, peripheral devices program. All programs are performed on 8085, 8086 microprocessor and 8051 microcontroller.  

Importance of Lab: - The microprocessors and microcontrollers are playing an extremely important role in a wide range of engineering applications. Nearly all intelligent electronic devices nowadays use one or more microprocessor or microcontroller chips. Microprocessor courses are currently taught by electrical engineering departments of all universities in the world. The classical method of teaching such courses is largely based on theory and little practical sessions. A new approach is proposed for the teaching of microprocessor and microcontroller courses. This approach enables students to learn the use of microprocessors and microcontrollers from a practical point of view.

Name of Lab: - Electronics CAD  Lab

Brief description of lab: - In this lab students work on Orcad Pspice software to design circuit by the help components toolbox. Students designs and analyses of different circuits. These are CMOS inverter, NMOS inverter, PMOS inverter, multiplexer, adders, rectifiers etc.

Importance of Lab:- Computer-aided design (CAD) is the use of  computer  systems to aid in the creation, modification, analysis, or optimization of a  design . CAD software is used to increase the productivity of the designer, improve the quality of design, improve communications through documentation, and to create a database for manufacturing. [

Name of Lab: - Antenna & Microwave lab.

Brief description of lab: Microwave engineering pertains to the study and design of  microwave  circuits, components, and systems. Fundamental principles are applied to analysis, design and measurement techniques in this field. In this lab students study Reflex Klystron Characteristics, Measurement of wavelength and frequency of waveguide, Magic Tee, Isolator, Multi-Hole directional coupler, attenuator and different type of antenna etc. Students will measure the radiation pattern (in E & H planes) with rotating antenna platforms, horn microwave absorbers and various antennas such as different lengths of dipole antennas, Yagi-Uda antennas, horn antennas, axial-mode helical antennas, waveguide slot antenna arrays and parabolic reflectors. There are also various waveguide components for carrying out experiments on microwave techniques which are all designed in waveguide technology R100 standard (Gunn diodes, isolators, Klystron power supply, PIN modulators, slotted lines, cross directional couplers,  variable and fixed attenuators, frequency meters, SS tunner, circulator, movable short, matched terminal etc.). In addition, there are various instruments by which are used to measure SWR, pulse response, etc. 

Importance of Lab:- The main objective of Antennas and Microwave Laboratory is to familiarize the undergraduate students with the practical application of microwave, antenna and propagation, and also to enable our students to meet the engineering requirements in this field.

Name of Lab: - Digital Signal Processing Lab

Brief description of lab:- DSP laboratory, built on the signals and systems fundamentals, mainly focuses on the learning of design, analysis and synthesis of various real time digital signals (either in time domain or in frequency domain) and systems employing different computation algorithms with  Code Composer Studio software and TMS320C6713 DSP Starter Kit (DSK). Students performed practical likes Synthesis of square wave, Synthesis of triangular, moving the average filter, convolution, digital differentiator, IR filter, FIR filter, FFT, DFT etc.

Importance of Lab:- Students learn the design flow from theory to software or hardware implementation and acquire practical knowledge by analyzing signals, with examples from the real world. In this laboratory students also get the opportunity to learn a specialized microprocessor i.e. Digital signal Processor by writing and executing small programs.

Name of Lab: - Electronic Circuit Design Lab

Brief description of lab: In this lab students will carry out a design oriented project work using various analog/ digital building blocks which they have already studied in their analog electronic/digital electronic courses such as electronic circuits, integrated circuits and filter design & analyze. In this lab students design and analyze op-amp based biquad KHN Filter, OTA biquad transfer characteristics, wein bridge oscillator, Op-amp/ OTA based function generator,  log/antilog amplifier circuits, analog multiplier/ divider circuit,  CMOS circuits and any circuit idea using 555 Timer in conjunction with any other ICs.

Importance of Lab:-   Innovativeness of the students & their understanding of the subjects are tested in this design Laboratory. This laboratory demands the essential knowledge of circuit design & fault analysis from the students which they learn during the four years of study of electronics & communication engineering. Along with the theoretical knowledge, the accumulated hands on experience also enhances by solving different design problems in this laboratory.

Name of Lab: - Computer Organization lab

Brief description of lab: This lab is to make the students experimentally familiar with the operation of different digital circuits and logic families such as DTL, TTL ECL and CMOS. In most of the experiments, the emphasis will be on how to obtain the desired outputs as described in theory. Students study about ALU, Shift register, Counter, Seven segment display, assembly language program etc.

Importance of Lab:-   This lab course is meant to create a pathway into digital world through learning the fundamentals of digital electronics that deal with either 0 or 1. Most modern electronic devices such as mobile telephones and computers deal with digital data that depend on logic circuits of digital electronics. Hence the main objective of this lab is to let the students perform rigorous experiments to consolidate basic knowledge in digital electronics and thus they get to acquire advanced knowledge.
